Start designing!

I intend to create my banner using a collage format to include multiple pictures. Yet, I aim for it to go beyond a typical collage; I want it to authentically represent Malaysia. Hence, I envisioned arranging the collage to resemble a 'Tikar mengkuang'. This inspiration led me to design my collage similar to the picture below:

Then, I have drafted the pattern, and it looks like this:

However, arranging my pictures like this might make the design appear rather dull, so I'm considering making the sizes uneven to add visual interest.

Firstly, I add the trapezium shape using the rectangle tool. Then, I include images of Malay and Indian women, as well as a lion costume, to represent the major races in Malaysia. Initially, I planned to incorporate a gradient background. However, I began to feel overwhelmed as the images already contained a variety of colours, and the gradient made the composition appear crowded and disorganized.

If you've read my earlier post, I mentioned that my colour palette would resemble the first picture. However, after some deliberation, I've decided to opt for the right picture. It will provide a calming, elegant, and traditional aesthetic that better complements my banner.

Next, I changed the background to a textured cream colour because I aimed for a simple and elegant appearance. Additionally, I incorporated filigrees to introduce a classic touch, as my goal is to imbue my banner with a traditional look. This way, I hope to attract viewers and spark their interest in learning about the culture of Malaysia.

For the typeface, I chose "Dhrifted" for "Charms" and "Magic Retro" for "Malaysian." I downloaded the fonts from the website Dafont. Additionally, I adjusted the "Charms" using the pen tool to add my personal touch, making it distinct from others. Moreover, I have included a tagline for my channel to help viewers grasp its content. Additionally, I have provided details on when I will be posting videos on my banner.

Then, as you can observe below the three main images, appear to be floating because their pictures have been cropped in half. To mitigate this awkwardness, I added a line of filigree.

For my design, I incorporated several design principles. These include utilizing texture as the background, employing trapezium shapes for the collage, using organized shapes for filigrees, and employing decorative lines for the font pattern. Additionally, I unified various images and arranged them together inspired by 'Tikar mengkuang' to create a new pattern.
