Discovering the right size

When I have settled on the ideation process, I can start designing my banner. As I begin designing, I use the size recommended by the Canva website, which is 2560 x 1440 px. When I input this size into Adobe Illustrator, it shows the exact dimensions of my first design. So I am quite puzzled because as we usually see, a YouTube banner is quite narrow and long, but when I use the correct size, it produces a long and wide area for me to design. Then, upon further research in Movavi Blog, I found that 2560 x 1440 px is the size when it's displayed on a TV. However, on the desktop, it displays another size, which is 2560 x 423 px, and when viewed on a phone, it crops down to 1546 x 423 px.

Then, since I want my banner to be versatile, I will design it at its maximum size, which is 2560 x 1440 px. However, I will focus on designing for the desktop area, as most people access YouTube using a desktop and phone. Therefore, to simplify my task, I mark the size for the desktop and safe area as 2560 x 423 px and 1546 x 423 px.

Then, I attempt to try this marking for my YouTube banner because I want to ensure it is correct before I begin designing.

However, you may notice that I have marked it smaller than the correct size, so I need to readjust the dimensions once more.

After I've made the necessary adjustments to the size, you'll notice that my marking now fits nicely within the designated area. With this sorted, I can now shift my focus to designing my banner.
